Chelsea English Dancers

A performing group formed in 1990, the Chelsea English Country Dancers team has, since its inception, been under the artistic direction of Christine Helwig, co-author of Thomas Bray's Country Dances 1699, and of Purcell, Playford and the English Country Dance. Currently, the team's rehearsal directors is Paul Ross; its contact person is Elizabeth Freedman. Chelsea's musical director is Leah Barkan, who, together with violinist George Davis, has been with the group from its foundation.

Chelsea ECD periodically rehearses at the gymnasium of the General Theological Seminary, 175 Ninth Avenue, in the Chelsea section of New York City. The team has performed for events at the seminary, at country dance sessions in the city, and at the Dance Flurry, at NOMAD Festival, and at Historic Hudson Valley's Philipsburg Manor.
