Half Moon Sword

Half Moon Sword is an all women's English sword team who have been dancing together in New York City since 1981. Their skillful dance displays have gained them a reputation here and in England for precision and fresh interpretations of traditional dances.

Half Moon performs rapper sword and longsword, including the Shetland Island dance Papa Stour and the Bampton Weavers dance. The team appears regularly at the New England Folk Festival and has traveled to England to appear twice at the Sidmouth International Festival (where they won the Ceremonial Dance Competition in 1991) and the International Sword Spectacular in Scarborough in 1996. Half Moon is known for its original rapper dance "fooling."

The Half Moon Sword Ale is an annual festival the team hosts every Presidents' Day weekend in New York. The Ale begins saturday morning in the Port Authority bus terminal, tours through libraries, museums, churches and community centers in Manhattan and Brooklyn and concludes with a massed stand at the Brooklyn Museum on sunday afternoon.
